Hi everyone, I am looking to start breeding clown fish and wanna know the best way to start and recommendations for what to buy/what not to buy. I have bred fish before but mainly freshwater, so any tips are helpful!

The big question is what will you do with the offspring. Clowns are a dime a dozen. Cost more to breed/raise them then you can sell them for. ( if you can even find buyers).

First off, if you’re doing this for profit, I would advise against it. It’s very hard to find buyers, and you won’t make much money at all unless you have a huge operation.

If you just want to breed them, the best setup is a tank with only a pair of adult clownfish and something for them to lay their eggs on (a clay pot works well). When the eggs are about to hatch, you move them to a separate tank with only a very weak sponge filter.

Feeding the babies is the most challenging part. You have to use rotifers or newly hatched baby brine shrimp (or something similar).

This is basically what I was going to say. One would likely end up with far more clownfish than they can successfully move. And that’s probably the case even if they were given away.
