I ordered an open box MP10 from BRS that arrived today. It was marked grade A which means "essentially new, the box has been opened, shows very little to no sign of use". When I first powered it on it made a loud grinding sound and wasnt generating any flow. After a couple seconds flow starting and there was a loud clicking sound. I tried realigning the wetside it the tank per the instruction but it always settles back to the same spot making the loud grinding sound. Here is a short video. It much louder in person!

Is there some break in period? MP owners, any idea what is defective. Sounds like its coming from the wetside. I have never owned a MP before. Wondering if someone returned it to BRS as defective or worse swapped it out. From what I could the item appeared unused. Already contacted BRS to let them know.

I can’t see the video. Is the pump submerged in water and is there glass between the wet and dry sides? What thickness?

Turn of the pump, remove the dry side, then turn it back on. If it keeps making the noise while not powering the wet side you know if its the wet or dry side.

I believe they do have a break in period and I believe they suggest only running at around 20-25% power for a week or two, on a steady, no random flow setting.

Thanks for the tip. Held dryside in my hand, pretty much dead silent and I can feel vibration of the motor spinning.

I had what you're describing on a new MP10, contacted Ecotech and they told me it's not normal and sent me a new wetside if I remember correctly.

Reach out to them, they were helpful.

The wet side can be disassembled. I'd open it up. I wonder if it got dropped and the ceramic shaft inside got broken maybe? If its louder than the video makes it seem, thats not normal wearing in volume.

Yeah, if you are using firefox as a browser there can be issues seeing videos. Wetside is submerged 8mm glass thick glass on a IM 25 lagoon.

Sounds like it could be a broken wet side. BRS should take care of it. Keep us posted

BRS open box so manufactures dont honor warranty. I called BRS prior to ordering, what they told me was you had 3 days to let them know if anything was wrong and 30 days to return. They did mention that echotech was a sister company so there is a little more wiggle room if things went wrong down the line. Either way I emailed them tonight and will see what they say. Maybe they will send me a wetside so I dont have to waste time returning and be back to step 1 all over again.

Interesting... I bought mine before that merger but got it from a non authorized local seller that just has one in the back and Ecotech didn't even bat an eye.

I'm pretty confident BRS will make it right, if they dont though, i'd still reach out to ecotech. They have great costumer service.

You can take the cage part off by twisting. The paddle? (part with heavy magnet on it) clips in over the shaft. It can come lose in shipping and would definitely sound horrible if it did. Check that and make sure it is clipped in properly.

Inspect the shaft as well.
