So I recently got An outbreak of Dino. So I ordered some vibrant and been syphoning th algae out everyday.. so what I wanted to ask is, I saw a video where it stated that tanks with aggressive nutrient export methods tend to get Dino.. so I was wondering, do I no longer use GFO and get rid of the chateo ? I’m pretty good on my husbandry skills so I’m wondering what I have to do so this doesn’t come back

In my opinions nutrient in tank does not matter. But everyone Dino has differences and every method that works is different. I would say check out the vibrant thread to get some advise. I am 3 weeks in and not seeing much progress with the vibrant but still too soon to judge. Manual removal can never be a bad thing

Yeah I’ve been all over the threads. I figured I had nothing to lose at this point. Today was my actual first dose. I removed chateo and gfo and just left carbon.. wish me luck

My tank develops dinos when nitrate gets below ~5. I dose more nitrate and they go away (my tank has a weird, rare nitrate deficiency though). I've actually seen more dinos since I've been using Vibrant (going on 3rd month) but I'm pretty sure that's because it's been bringing down nutrients further than my usual carbon dosing. Very possible they'll just fade away since you're taking some of the nutrient control out of the picture (keep an eye on po4 since you're ditching both chaeto AND gfo)

I’ve done manual removal, doses of bacteria to out compete, added pods, bleach doses (last time I didn’t math so well, totally my error, multiple fish casualties), vibrant, and a few other things. But, this time I bought a UV. 80 gal tank, 40 breeder sump, 36w Jabeo unit and a random 300gph pump shuttled down as far as I can without rattling the impeller. Here are my progress shots from last Thursday to yesterday. Best investment yet for Dino. As long as you blow the rocks off and get the stuff into the column overnight, and it’s the right type of Dino, should be good.

That’s great. Glad to see progress. I am actually doing pretty much same thing. I got UV, upped flow, turkey basting daily and dosing vibrant 2times a week. I have seen the turf algae disappear for the most part. It looks like Dino is being beat also. I am getting bad cyano now, but one battle at a time.

I’m also seeing an increase in cyano ! I just did my 4th week of dosing 5ml of vibrant a week today. It seems like my dynos are slowly going away, but they are still visible .
