Dino tank crash

I recently had Prorocentrum in my nine-month-old tank and followed most of the advice mentioned here. I am dosing phytoplankton with several types of bacteria and dosing to keep Nitrates and Phosphates balanced.
What worked beautifully in less than a week was a UV sweeper. I used the sweeper during the day when the Dinos were more visible in the sand and dosed phytoplankton at night.

I am not keen on silicates although its an option and yes on peroxide several weeks. I utilize liquid bacteria to out compete bad bacteria

So I kicked my battle off with stopping of dosing nos and phos, 5 day black out , daily peroxide and mb7.

When I kicked lights back in I turned whites off and was happy to see ZERO Dino’s and the tank stopped smelling bad. After maybe 5 days with lights on and continuing the same regimen otherwise it’s starting to rear its head again.

I haven’t had time to hook up UV yet due to summer time and building a deck. Do you think doing a shorter black out will help me curb its full return? Happy to report that I’m seeing copepods and the remaining corals and snails I have seem to be doing well

Great to hear and you can gradually increase blue intensity and slower on whites and continue peroxide at night for another 10 days. You got this !

I can’t tell you how devastated I was to basically loose a whole tank not knowing I had Dinoflagellates. I thought I had hair algae that was pearling lol.

I would come home (I travel 3-4 days a week) and walk in to a bad smelling reef. Thankfully the smell is gone.

I plan on hooking up UV in the next few days, ordering copepods and maybe some fish in the next few days.

I battled dino for almost a month and tried a bunch of things like turning off lights, changing parameters, Dino-X, etc, and nothing works for me except...a UV sterilizer. I installed it and noticed results in 12 hours and they were all gone by day 3...

Ok lol. I bought a good unit but haven’t put the time into hooking it up. Maybe it’s a good investment of my time.

I just ordered some fish. Hoping to get some dang life back into the tank.

Realize, a UV unit is effective but will NOT erase what is pre-existing in which you want to take the steps to stop and then let UV do its thing
