Hello all

Ive been fighting dinoflagellates for months. I took a shot gun aproche and treated with dinoxal. The dinoflagellates were gone. After a view weeks i added white sand. Boom there they were again. So i took the sand out again.

Next try, i added black sand , the same story. If i have sand i get dinoflagellates. How?

The only way i can keep them away is bare bottom. But i dont like the look.

Any advice?

1. Are you sure it's dinos? That looks like it could be cyano.
2. Are you consistently keeping your phosphates and nitrates above zero?

It shows red on the foto, but its Brown, the bubbly kind. My tank is a bit dirty. Phospates and nitrates are high

Dino's love new substrate and rocks. It's a change to the tank. If you can cure the new sand in a separate bucket for awhile, it may help.
