Hey all,

I'm having some trouble identifying this growth in my tank. Its about 4 months old now. On the large scale, its the stuff growing on the front of the tank and sand in the first photo.

Whats confusing me most is that the the vast majority of the cells aren't moving. I can't tell if this means they are dino cysts, chrysophytes, or something else. 20240214_185112.jpg

The closest images are at 1000X magnification.

Thanks for the help

Except the small green cells, all the golden cells might be Amphidinium. I have seen what looks like regular Amphidinium cells, ovals with a hook or beak, and the round, puffed up versions. You can see some of the large round cells do have a beak. Are these two species or two life stages?

Exactly, I was thinking procentrum. But these move even less than the videos shown. Also, I think whatever these are, are much smaller than dinos.
