Here is my attempt at a DIY algae scrubber. Overall not to bad. Definitely learned some things while working with the acrylic. Waiting for material to arrive tomorrow to black out the clear acrylic around the light.

The thing with drains is.. they are a PITA.. My first (amaturish) ATS had false bottom, then I made ATS with 2 drains and after about a year I redesigned it back into false bottom design again. The idea of a false bottom ATS is you have a large slot opening reaching out all the way to water level and you have a longer than needed screen that touches water level. The noise becomes inaudible - and does not require any flow tuning.. Take a look - probably for your next version:
