i am trying to set up a DIY ATO for my hospital tank. I purchased a relay and tried to wire it up but I am having no luck getting the relay to work. Any help with how to properly wire this relay is greatly appreciated.

So as you can see you are looking at the bottom of the relay with the two verticle pins being 7 and 8.

The horizontal pins are what you put your 110 to if you are controlling a 110v pump. I use 12volt pumps for mine but it doesn't really matter as long as you don't exceed the amperage rating of the relay.

You want your connection to be normally open or in other words OFF. Put your 110v IN on pins 3 and 4 and put the output to the pump on pins 5 and 6. Make sure you keep + on one side and - on the other.

Now, you will put one wire from the float switch to either pin 7 or pin 8. The other wire goes to the + of a 12 volt power supply.

The other wire of the float switch goes to the opposite pin from the last step. Either 7 or 8.

Done!

Now, I highly recommend using two float switches one upside down but both in line. The updside down one serves as a safety to prevent over filling the sump/tank.

I wired up my relay and still nothing. The green light inside of the relay turns on and off when I move the float switch but that's all? I have tested the relay and its tests good but for some reason the coil isn't moving when the float switch is moved. Any ideas what might cause this?

Bad relay.

PM me your address and I will drop one in the mail.

I bought a dozen to get them cheap. ;)

I will make sure to test it before I send it.

BTW, I don't use those style bases. I have had nothing but problems with them.

I solder the wires directly to the terminals after tinning them. Then I put the whole thing in a project box to neated it up and protect it.
