Has anyone ever cut down a glass tank to make a shallow frag tank. I have an old oceanic 58 that i was thinking of trying to cut.
Thanks

you would need to take it apart, cut the glass then assemble back together. it can be done though.

i was thinking just lay it on its side and use a dremel diamond cut off wheel. It will take a while i know but would save some money

It could work.. The problem is those tanks are typically designed with a rim for a REASON. They are integral to the structural security of the tank itself. Removing that is a BIG risk.

CAN it be fine, and work out with no problems? Absolutely. But I don't suggest it.

It's way cheaper to just get a cheap frag tank off ebay, or build one with scrap, or even buy a used one.

That's great then! Most people don't realize it's important structurally. If you have something in mind for that, then by all means, give it a go. It'll be pretty slow like you said...

Having gotten metal shards in my eyes once i'm inclined to tell anybody doing something like this to;
1) wear eye protection
2) Make sure the dremel has the little guard thingy (technical term)
3) Make sure wind isn't blowing glass dust into your face

Not that you don't already know that information.. But having had to get things dug out of my with a needle I wish that upon nobody.
