'Superficial choices' is meaningless in this context. I choose what I choose, because I choose it. Ironically choosing based on your opinion, or rhetoric would be, by definition, superficial.


You are confusing arguing opinion with presenting fact. It is my opinion that LEDs do not look as natural as Halides. It is a fact; one is a broad, continuous plasma arc spectrum; the other is a banded, phosphor-driven spectrum down-converted from single wavelength blue emitters.

Well update....

I really hate dealing with people. Guy I was buying these from rescheduled twice yesterday. I drove 25 miles to meet him where he wanted to meet and got stuck in traffic, was running 10 minutes late and get a barrage of messages saying I am wasting his time and he is just leaving and going to throw them away. I apologized for running late but reminded him that he rescheduled twice without confirming I would be able to make it. As I pulled into the parking lot he comes flying out and nearly clips my truck and gives me the bird.

Anyways postponing my return to halides till the next deal comes

Those fixtures use medium based (E26) bulbs. Most aquarium bulbs are mogul base (E39/E40).

Only thing really usable would be the ballasts inside if they are the proper wattage and type. Depending on the age the capacitors may need replacing as well.

I was happy with just the reflectors. Would have retried everything else in. Remote mounted the ballasts to save weight but the guy was an butt and bailed

You will find way better deals locally. Better reflector and proper ballasts out of the fixture. Just keep searching...

You can order MH reflectors that are really cheap from Europe...and they are really good in terms of spread and reflection!

About the ballasts....you have 2 options:
1. Order Lumatek selectable wattage, from 250 to 400 .
2. Order magnetic ballast , M59 or M135 model ,depending on the bulbs that you want to install with them.

Those reflectors do look nice. I did pick up a pair of ice cap selectable ballasts. I haven't tested them but they were cheap. In the process of downsizing/upgrading my tank so this project is on hold again.

I use HTG reflectors. Like 25$ each. Ordered 4 and realized they are massive lol. So now I have 2 extras lol but they were cheap.
