Has anyone used Gordon's Stump remover to make a DIY nitrate solution to dose for a reef tank? The label says 99% Potassium Nitrate and 1% Calcium Stearate. Unsure if the calcium stearate has any effect on the solution or the reef tank. Spectracide stump remover lists 100% Potassium Nitrate but from what I've read, it probably has impurities as well. Only reason I am asking is because I can buy Gordon's locally and would have to order the spectracide or another source. Thanks in advance

The calcium stearate is no concern, but I’d recommend a product with a purity assurance that is not provided by an ingredient list, which is what yours is likely to be. Food grade sodium or potassium nitrate are both available and not very expensive.

there is pharmaceutical lanthanum for phosphate binding in people, but I do not know if it is available to the public.

Those numbers were off the MSDS sheet i believe. Accurate enough or no? I have a walmart in my town but they don't carry the spectracide stump remover. The gordon's is at an Ace Hardware or Tractor Supply. I don't suppose waiting an extra day or 2 will hurt but I've lost sps frags to Dino/low nutrients. and want to either solve the problem by dosing or at least eliminate that possibility.
