diy water siphon

I am going to build a pvc diy water siphon has anyone added a hand pump to start the flow to one of these

I hate the taste of salt water

I generally just insert the tubing down in to the tank. Plug the dry end and pull back the tube until the water in the tube is lower then the display tank and let my finger plugging the dry end go.

Yeah, saltwater is nasty.
