I know for me, snails have always been interesting inhabitants in any tank. They keep your tank clean, and you never know where they are going to end up next. I am wondering if you have a favorite kind of snail in your tank. Curious to hear what everyone says!

Nirite, small, but last a long time in my system.
Can get into places, others can’t.
Seem to clean small amounts of Cyano.

I like Nerites too, but they don't clean everywhere. Mine never want to go on the rocks. They are super hardy for me. Ceriths are also fun.

I got some Five Banded Trochus, from PetCo, Quarantined them since they were in with fish. Was worried they’d make it, since they went through the algae quickly. Moved them to my 120, they work circles around my Astraea. Will be getting some more.

Blackfoot/banded Trochus. Nothing else comes close, unless you need a turbo snail for hair algae.

Right now Nerites, as only 12 hours after adding a bunch they’re annihilating green cyano that nothing else will touch.

Good to have a variety from all the ones mentioned above, turbo, nerite, trochus, astraea, margarita to nassarius. The practice is to buy lots of snails but usually more than 50% die off because of lack of food source. I’ve noticed every snail has a specific taste & job so I start backwards with small numbers & work my way up so the snails don’t starve & die off until I find a good number that can keep algae nice & trimmed.

The favorite snail in my tank has always been the Money Cowrie. I just think they are cool looking and always have a couple in my tanks.

Banded trochus are good, but I must say I am very fond of money Cowries. IME they have much greater longevity, and are a lot less tempting to things that want to eat snails. And they do a dang good job at chowing down on a wide variety of algaes. :)
