Do you label your plugs

I am not so keen on the names only because it is so easy for me to mix them up and/or forget. and while i dont like paying for the names i do like most of the corals that have names. my question goes to labeling those frags we get. do you label them and if so what is the best way? sharpie or what? this way it will be easier to track as they grow while not harming the tank.

I don't label them. However, I do have a running chart/list that keeps tracks of all the corals I've purchased or traded for. I'm curious to know if there is a safe way to label them though.

So far I havent found a need to label. Between staring at my tank multiple times a day, looking at tons of pictures of what I buy before I buy, and only buying 4-5 frags every month or two, I find I'm able to keep track of everything decently. Maybe something like keeping a photograph log of each frag in the tank could help? Beyond that, marking them won't really work long term, as they'll likely encrust over the plug fairly quickly (hopefully!).

I made a chart/diagram showing the location of each one with a name for later reference. But i actually managed to figure out and remember the names to all of them and what they look like pretty quickly.

Nope, no labels here. I REALLY don't care what a coral is "named"! If I like it I will get it and put it in my tank. I always research what I am buying to ensure I can care for it properly, But beyond that, nope.

sharpie doesnt do any damage to water?

Wwc labels their plugs with numbers written in what looks like sharpie to me.

I just started doing sharpies. Basically I have a list of zoas on my phone and a corresponding number which is written on the frag plug.

If you want the sharpie Mark's to last longer put some thin glue over them and let it dry clear and it is way easier to read later on

I don't label, but I do keep a spreadsheet with a photo, name, purchase date, price, approximate size, and preferred water/light conditions for species. Works pretty good except for sometimes I get a frag and the person I got it from doesn't even know what kind of coral it is (they just get named "Mystery frag").

Take a pic of each new frag and then edit the pic with some text or writing with the frag name. Can keep a folder in your phone of all your frag's IDs and can compare growth later on.
I've never had to do this cause I usually buy just a few frags at a time.

Got a $20 label printer from walmart that prints laminated labels. Put them around the stem on the frag plug with a dab of super glue to permanently hold it in place.

How do you do that one a wet plug? Is it safe to add unused or basically dead frag plugs? I always fear adding anything that isnt live to my tank! I added some dead or unlive rubble th e other day (preparing to use in my frag tank) and I have a few dying corals so I am wondering if it messed with the balance somehow. I have always read not to add unlive sand and now I soak it with mb 7 first for days but maybe that is why I have a few dying corals too!

I just watched a video of Than from Tidal garden doing that! I think i am going to try it! I am afraid they maybe to big though on a tiny frag plug but I could probably use it on my magnetic hanging frag racks for now until I get my frag tank up and going!

I don't farm and I don't sell much. If I have too many corals incoming or outgoing where I cannot remember which is which, then I tend to lose track of them and stuff.

In the rare occasion that I might have too many to forget, I just write on the glass with a sharpie.
