Do you still quarantine pre quarantined fish

My question is I’ve been looking at getting some fish from doctor reef do I still need to quarantine them or just throw them in the main tank. Also are there pros and con of buying pre quarantine fish

Personally I'll be quarantining no matter who I get the fish from because there are stories about each of these vendors sending fish with Ich, etc. It's a numbers game. Chances of a sick fish are lower than a regular store or online retailer, but there is still a chance of them bringing something that can have terrible consequences later on.

I'm planning to do the Phase 1 method that BRS and Marine Collectors described in their video tutorials, which was about targeting Ich and Velvet. (Phase 3, dealing with Flukes, seems to have never made it online though.. weird.)

I’d still quarantine. I buy all my fish from the same place and have developed a relationship with the management so I trust their quarantine protocols. But since you’re buying from a new vendor I would still watch the fish prior to putting them in your main system.

I've had this question before too. It seems the general consensus is to at least do an observation based QT; however, Jay has told me he would trust pre-quarantined anthias from Dr. Reef to go straight into the display...

I have a flame from Dr. Reef. I admit to taking a chance and putting it in my 40 gallon reef tank. There were only 2 other fish in the tank. And I was willing to take the chance.

I also had a quarantine tank and willing to put them into it if needed. Had lost several angels in quarantine recently. Dr. Reef replaced the first one he sent. It never would eat. I paid extra and the second was captive bred. Beautiful fish and no issues.

Great question. The price hike for quarantined fish is huge from what I’ve seen, so it makes me wonder what the benefit is if it isn’t the fact that you can confidently throw them into the display tank right away.

Lots of threads on this already, specifically Dr Reef's. There's also plenty of testimonials of people who trust their QT process (which they detail on their website) and introduce fish right into their DT as Dr Reef recommends on his acclimation procedures. I have ordered from them on several occasions and introduce immediately.

If you're going to QT livestock that is already certified QT'd, then you would be better off getting from an LFS to reduce shipping risk.

I've ordered from Dr Reef 4 times and have added them directly into my display tank.
If I'm paying for quarantined fish, why should I have to do it.
I am getting ready to make another order and plan on adding them into the tank as well.

I guess I have trust issues with my main display tank. But I still prefer fish that arrive healthy.

That’s what I decided to do. Keeping them apart just to observe without resorting to dosing anything right away.

Observation is fine but check the fine print. I know for a fact with Dr. Reef additional quarantine with medication voids his warranty. There are a number of "reviews" from people who were upset because their warranties were denied after they did their own medicated quarantine. It's just not necessary (and is likely even harmful).

Like others have said though, if you're dead-set on doing your own quarantine, don't bother ordering from a business that does their own (real) quarantine like Dr. Reef. It's a waste of money and potentially dangerous.

I do not do anything except temp equilibrate and plop the Dr Reef fish into the tank.

I've purchased fish from Dr. Reef three times and I've immediately placed all fish from him into my DT. Initially, it was hard to do so, as I've always performed my own medicated quarantine prior to putting fish in my DT. But, from my 'interactions' with Mike (Dr. Reef), I trust his process and he's always come thru 'in spades'.
