This might just be my irrational fear, but whenever I do a water change, I'm always concerned about something getting into the water that might contaminate it, whether it's a household soap, shampoo (I prep everything in the bathtub), or something else. I end up obsessively rinsing everything to try and avoid it, which makes water changes such a dreadful process.

How intensely do you try to mitigate against any contamination of aquarium water? Do you take any measures during water changes?

Just use dedicated equipment that is never contaminated with anything hazardous like the things you mention and you will be fine.
