Just got in. On the plate for the intermediate chamber there appear to be some abrasive edges. There are three small areas like this. Will this effect performance?

No, but that plate is removable so you can clean the skimmer and I would be happy to get you a replacement.

Thanks for the quick reply (and for the offer), but if it won't effect performance I will just keep it for now and see how it does.

One last question. I see the water depth range for usage, but what is the exact recommended water depth for optimal performance?

About 5-6" is the ideal, the lower end with some safety margin will result in drier skimming and easier adjustment.
