Does anyone else love monster freshwater fish?

I know there is another website about them but does anyone else LOVE monster freshwater fish? The largest tank I have is for my Oscar. I have always wanted a 300+ tank but not a reef, I want a Dovii Cichlid. Anyone else love fresh just as much as their reef?

I started with a fresh water, much like most of us and I would say having a SW is so much worth the effort. I am sure there are "smart" fish and have "personality" fish in the fresh water world but I did not see it with what I had, which was mostly platies, tetras, and cory cats (which were my favs). Maybe I am biased but it seems like SW are so much smarter than FW fish.

I used to have a very large chocolate cichlid named Rocco. Talk about a gentle giant. My kuhli loaches used to hide under him when I was working in the tank. He was probably my favorite fish to date. I currently have two 7 year old blood parrot cichlids that are big, fat and ornery. Not giants, but they think they are.

I like the big amazon displays at public aquariums, aruanas, pacus, cats, don't have the space for a big tank and would much rather be fishing for monster freshwater fish:).

I’ve got a 210 gallon up and running right now with an arowana, two giant blood parrots, a huge red severum, and I’m growing out an Oscar in a 90 gallon until he’s big enough to not get chomped by the arowana :)

A lot of the large cichlids act like dogs. My Oscar swims right to the glass when I walk in the room. He will even let me pet him.

I have 3 blood parrots right now. All of them are 5+ years.

I used to keep frontosa great looking fish they came from Tanganyika and I kept benthichromis tricoti with them as well as few more Tanganyikas .

I use to keep big S American cichlids.; oscars etc. Then I realized they are really pretty ugly and just not interesting. Severums are way more interesting (and smart) along with Blue Acaras, etc. Still, they are all captive raised and farmed which is a good thing in my book.

use to have an Oscar in college, grew from a tiny baby to huge 10" beast only bc tank was a small 29 gallons. Such powerful jaws, could hear it crunch pellet food and also loved watching it eat live feeder fish.

Yes I have a huge two foot fire eel that's about 3 inches thick. Not the best picture its hiding and I need to clean my glass from today's water change. I've had it since it was a baby as I rescued 3 of them. Remhomed two. This one now needs to be rehomed from my 90 gallon. Love them though. Eats from my hand but a little violently lol
