That is gracilaria I believe which is a very palatable treat for tangs and has great nutrient uptake ability. However it CAN go sexual

 
Some of the micro algae are beautiful and would look stunning in any reef tank, provided you go for non invasive species

The problem is many fish will just eat it, in particular tangs so they can often become an expensive snack! I tried it myself and it lasted about 3 minutes before nothing was left
