Dosed my QT with Chloroquine Phosphate 3 weeks ago, and my nitrate levels appear to be undetectable. This seems highly unlikely as I have 3 fish in the QT and have been feeding them regularly. No water changes. I did two nitrate tests and both appear the same.

All i can think is that 1) CP affects testing, and 2) the film algae thats developed in the last 2 days has consumed most of the nitrates.

What am I missing?

You don’t say what the nitrate level was three weeks ago. With light stocking levels, nitrate concentration can become undetectable.

I did a 100% waterchange 3 weeks ago. Midas blenny, royal gramma, and Talbots Damselfish in 18-20 gallons. You think maybe it really is just low? It just seems unlikely from previous experience keeping fish in small tanks.

Yes, a low nitrate level is possible. Also, you are using an API kit kit which might not be indicating a 1-2 ppm NO3.

If you change 100% of the water the nitrate will be low...... The algae as well will lower it. I dont know if here is any way to know if chloroquine affects the test unless you call the company that makes your test/email customer support. I guess I would say that usually if a test is going to be affected by something - its more likely to cause a high level not a low one...
