Hi All,
we have all heard from live sand. I was wondering if anyone has used real coral reef sand? As in, sand gathered on the floor of a real, live, natural reef. Do you think this would be beneficial? My understanding of live sand is it's just sand gathered from the ocean floor, but not necessarily near a live reef. thanks!

Yes, it would be immensely beneficial.

Bacteria would be part of the reason, but also all the microfauna you'd get from that sand. Spaghetti worms, micro-brittle stars, copepods, little snails and more. It's easy to underestimate the combined value that all those little critters have in supporting a reef tank.
