Before buying acros you have to make sure your Alkalinity is as close to flat as possible. If they were dead within 36 hours, they STNd and it could have been alkalinity swing, the dip, temperature change, etc. When they first move they are really sensitive to any changes. Test your Alkalinity and keep it at a stable level and don't let it move. When you can keep your alkalinity within 0.3dkh for an entire week - and don't have swings of more than 1/2 dkh in a day and don't have swings of more than 1dkh over longer periods like a month - you know you are ready for Acro :-)

If you can't test Alkalinity down to 0.3 or 0.1dkh, then you need to be able to. Sure, you can keep Acros with nothing but API kits, but why do that when you can have an alkalinity of 7.7dkh and test for 8 and you have have an alkalinity of 8.8 and test for 8 as well. A swing like that in 1 day (esepcially right after it was moved) could very easily kill an Acro and you would never know you had an alkalinity swing since your test showed 8dkh before and after.

never thought of that, guess ive just been lucky. whats a good alk test
iv used one before and didnt care to much for the way it compairs to the color on the card. it may have been an api test kit.

Just to add u should always light acclimate ir corals. Start them on the bottom and slowly bring them up over a few weeks at least. Led lights can burn corals like laser beams:eek:

Guys I appreciate the input I believe I am going to invest in a alk test kit I bet it was that along with the light it was on the frag rack about 3/4 to the top prob should placed lower in the tank

Did the sps lose tissue or just bleach?light won't cause sps to die overnight like that but alkalinity problems def can.
