What are the best dosing containers to use with a dosing pump?

I use the plastic cereal containers….and I purchased these at Walmart. What I like about them is their wide opening. It makes refilling them easy and spill-free.

I've been told by Thrive aquatics to put putty around the opening. If they are air tight won't you have the issue of no air displacement? What are your guys thoughts?

Building An Obsession dosing containers with digital float switch so my apex can notify me when I need to refill them.
