So I accidentally bought the Hannah iodine tester for freshwater and have been wondering how I could safely dose to the reef tank without an ICP test. I was thinking I could add iodine to an ATO or mix it in my freshwater and then test prior to adding salt to achieve .06 iodine levels.
I'm not sure what type of iodine the hannah tests for or really what type of iodine my Triton iodine is. I don't know what it turns into once it's added to freshwater or how it changes when the salt is mixed in. I could switch products to I² (lugols) if it would work with that.
Can a chem literate person fill me in whether or not this is could be done?
