I am a beginner, what’s the difference between dosing and dipping? And criteria for either

Dosing is adding supplements to the tank to make up for uptake by coral. As they absorb calcium, you dose what they remove from the water to keep your levels in check.

Dipping is submerging the new coral in the dipping solution mixed with tank water for a set time before adding to your tank, This kills off pests like flatworms. NEVER add dipping solution to your display tank, always dip in a small container and toss the water after.

If you do regular water changes there's typically no need to dose, unless you know a particular trace element is continuously lacking.

Dipping is treating corals for a variety of things. Most common as stated above, to remove pests before adding to your tank. But there are quite a few other dips for coral treatments.
