Hello. In my upcoming new reef setup I would really like to have a neon dottyback (Pseudochromis aldabraensis) as part of the fish list. I read about how mean they are, many many years ago I had one and it was a model citizen. I know that could have been a one off experience, so I thought I would ask any of you that has had them what your experience has been. Other fish I pan to keep are rather peaceful like gobies, blennies, pygmy hawk, anthias ,etc. If it matters the new tank is a 150 gallon and will be a mixed reef. Thanks.

Depending when you were last in the hobby, for the pseudo's it a whole new ball game. Back in the day an Arabian pseudochromis was a gorgous lil fish that could empty a tank filled with aggressive fish.

But now they are captive bred by multiple companies. Being raised, in vats with thousands, they have been tamed down. They have lost some of their beauty, but they are now community fish. I have about 30 different captive bred pseudos in my reef tank, with everykind of fish imaginable - from Black Tangs to Eviota gobies.

The pseudos are in and out of the rock work. They have their caves. And they are spawning.

All the pseudos and now the Arabian can be safely kept in a community tank. I recommend groups more than singles.
