I just purchased an eheim 2213.

I love how it works I have just one question though. Since the water is siphoned and pumped into the canister I worry about an overflow if I lose power.

Did anybody drill a safety hole near the top of the inlet pipe or do sometig else to increase safety?

Where does the output of the filter go? If it goes back into the tank, then no anti-siphon hole is needed. If it goes from the tank to a sump, that's a potential problem.

That's why some canister filters have the inlet and outlet molded into the same plastic bracket that hangs over the edge of the tank. The Marineland Magnum series does it this way, and I think it's for the better. Anti-siphon holes can clog and fail, which I've witnessed firsthand.

It goes into the sump which is where the problem lies.

I don't trust the anti siphon holes as well. In time I want my eheim running carbon to be the water source for my fuge. As far as I can tell drilling a hole is my best bet. If not 2 to be safe.
