Hey guys, so awhile back I bought a “mystery anemone” from petco and it was decided it was a bubble tip , however, it is acting strange. Probly for the last month the anemone has been behind the rocks and receiving no direct light. I thought anemones would move to find a nice spot , not one in darkness lol anyway just seeing if I should do anything or let the anemone continue to vibe , surprisingly it looks fine , inflated and mouth isn’t open just weird to not receive any light for a month

Can you take a pic under white light? From the blue pic it is hard to tell, but it looks to be bleached, which is very typical of anemones from Petco and many LFS. They never have enough light over them! If it is in fact bleached it will take a long time to recover. They like nitrates and use them as a food source. I suggest keeping nitrates between 10 and 20 for this reason. I usually don’t recommend feeding them for the most part. Try giving it some mysid shrimp or small bits of raw shrimp every 4 days or so. Do not force it to eat. If it wants it, it will take.

I will take another pic when I get home, I removed the rock above the nem so it is now getting light and it moved to bottom of rock. I was able to feed it yesterday, just gave it a mysis so it’s tentacles are sticky. I just thought it would come out on its own but I’m interveneing and forcing it to get some light lol

I had one that hid like that before. Didn't make it.. My tank was too young and I didn't pay enough attention to parameters.

I have other nems and stable params, I’m thinking this nem didn’t start off very well and petco certainly didn’t help, Im wondering if I should be doing anything special for it to recover or just let it be and feed mysis every other day or so

Nice tank...I would try and leave it alone, it knows better than you if it wants to hide or if it needs light, I know it’s hard to do but probably best.

Get those pics up when you can, as Laverda seems to know about these things.

It could be you have more light than it is used too.. Some BTA's do not need a huge amount of light like some other anemones. Some can adapt to higher lighting too and do fine under it but it does not mean they all require it. It may just be shading itself from your light.

This could be another reason, from petco to orphek or3 and I don’t have any acclimation mode due to the lights just being off/ on. I will say when the nem was in petco is had no color and mouth was open so I knew it wasn’t doing great

Glad to hear your rainbows are doing well. Hopefully this one will recover in time.
