I’ve had it for probably a year. Nothing in the rank changed. Everything else is doing fine. Didn’t feed it anything new. Behavior was completely normal. I woke up a few days ago and it was dead. No wounds I could see. Frustrating because I have no idea what happened.
Anyone else ever have this happen?

I've only had one eel and he quit eating so I know why he died. I have had it happen with fish over the years where they die and I have no idea why. IME if all of your parameters look good then you will probably never know what caused its death.
Sorry for the loss

Assuming it was wild caught sometimes the things they use to stun fish to catch them can cause long term health issues. Alternatively sometimes wild caught fish are already fairly old when we get them. I try to never buy wild caught because there’s so many things we don’t know about them when we get them.
