East Coast Diving Trip (Recommendations)?

Hey all.
Since my industry in NYC is shot till fall, we are road tripping from NY to the keys for a month.

We are hitting NC, Georgia, FL

Already booked a wreck in NC and such. Looking for cool recommendations for the keys, sites, boats etc.

We have never dove FL before.

If you are heading to the keys I will recommend snorkeling or scuba diving on islamorada reefs they are awesome, when you get to key west just almost everything is awesome there. Be ready to spend some money....

Here’s what you do...hit the Andrea Doria off you home coast first, do some megalodon tooth hunting dives in the cooper river in Charleston , s.c., then to the Speigal Grove, in Pensacola, Florida, then crystal river, fl with the manatees, then Cayman salvager in key west. And then decompress.

Yes, we just book a 2 day Meg tooth in NC and a one day in SC at the Cooper river... the videos of Cooper river are crazy!!

Will be in Southern FL. For about week and half... no decompression hahahaha.... missing out on our Thailand trip.

Are you doing a Tec-wreck course on mixed air GUE type course or just like a Padi/Naui cert course? Either way improving skills is always a great idea. If the latter then, Andrea Doria is way above of the elementary skill level. Trimix at the mininum and rebreather highly recommended, stage bottles are required for deco. But the Speigal Grove has medium to advanced dives starting at about 70' down to the 200' depths. And the Cayman Salvager off key west is a good beginner wreck at at 90' if i remember, with little to no penetration diving. Also take a a trip to Tortugas, there are daily trips. But who knows these day with covid and all. I would be definitely be bringing all my own gear if i were you, if you have it of course.

And of course John Pennekamp national marine reserve in Marathon is a must dive.

Certs are mostly for my wife working on her divemaster, padi.

Definitely bring gear, no fly easily able.

FL & keys opens June 1st, all good.

I'm from San Diego, so yeah, miss warm climate and definitely over NYC.

There is a really nice freshwater cave in DeFuniak Springs called Vortex Springs in the panhandle of Florida. You can go 70 or 80 ft back into the cavern. Nate little dive if you've never been in a situation like that. Just stay three or four foot above the bottom and keep the Fins Up or you will stir up a silt storm.

Blue heron bridge is a good dive! Also if you want some relaxing beach dives look into Sunrise Blvd or lauderdale by the sea. Also dania beach you can swim out to the edge of the reef at 25-30’.

Personally I don’t dive too often but I do Freedive/snorkel often. Have been to many beach spots in ft lauderdale area and seen some amazing things.
