Ecotech radion g5 knock off found!

Are you really not seeing any different to the real radion g5 besides cooling maybe? I would like to see comparisons. Here I run a xr15 g4 and I can't see the difference in the spectrum, but in the power, yes.

Well got it to connect 1st shot, updated time and hit the save button, messaged me "timed out", and quit responding all together. No factory reset or anything. Im about at my wits end with these lights....

I’m running 3 and no difference between real radions.

I can control 8 channels and par with only blues at 40% is 300 at 30” below the lights, only blue spectrum!

I did just like you said when I connected the 1st one. I updated the time zone on th app, then synced the time. Worked just fine, kept the time and all. Now on the 2nd one I synced the time and hit save just like the 1st one and it locked up, no blinking led (still connected to wifi) and all control of the light stopped in the app. I tried a factory reset, doesnt work, I deleted from the app, doesnt work. I check my wifi from my phone doesnt show up anymore, even when I unplugged my router, still couldnt see the lights internal wifi. The one step I forgot to do was update the firmware on the light when I got it connected, soIm assuming thats what went wrong, but now its stuck connected to my wifi but I can't see it no matter what I do. About to open the light and remove the battery, and see if thatll reset it, idk.

In output ,with the Cree version at least, 1to1 match. As fare as app much different. Wifi vs Bluetooth. No mobius.

You mean par and spectrum right? Is there a way to tune the light to AB Plus?

When they use the exact same LEDs and arrange them in the same orientation, they will mimic the actual light.

I can't attest for the amount of wattage driving the knock off vs the actual light but I'd imagine they are extremely close.

Long answer for spectrum = same. Intensity (par) = extremely close

Yah that would make sense. This is for the A8 version right? How would I tune the light to replicate ecotechs ab plus spectrum? Was looking at a light to replace my Hydra on a 40 gallon

The higher end stuff is slowly pricing themselves out. That has nothing to do with the cheaper stuff. Ecotech doesn't care what the cheap stuff is priced at. They know their costs and their margins. They price according to that. That is how any successful business runs.

If the majority of people buy knockoffs, there will be no one to knock off at some point. Plenty of cheap options out there already from companies that actually took some time to create something instead of just steal it.

That's why I was curious, when I was using them the meanwell runs much cooler than my real G5 power supplies.

Oh yeah I have both meanwell and the black ones and both run cooler, but the black are a little warmer then the meanwell. I think the aluminum on the meanwell cools much better plastic.

This was Ecotech 2019, and this is not AI. This was taken the week after I visited, and when I was there, a sweet Testarossa was in the parking lot. They knew their margins well, I'm sure they appreciated all y'all's money. Before I knew better, mine included.

Our friend Ryan (rtparty), who has financially benefited from the reefing hobby, likes to defend the sanctity of the overpriced reefing gear profits, but I have a different view. Copycat products don’t automatically stop innovation; they often shift it. When low-cost alternatives appear, premium brands (shoud) respond by improving features, reliability, or integration to justify their prices; however, too often they simply send in the influencers.

True innovation only slows when profits across an entire category vanish, which is rare because markets evolve and new areas emerge. But given how Big Reefing is pricing itself out of reefing households, slumping profits are already here.
