Found this on the bottom of a gulf live rock. Anyone know what it is? looks like a mostly transparent blob with little red dots in it.

Someone else recently had something like this - my current guess is a tunicate of some kind.

Does it expand/contract, move, or open/close? Any pics of it under water?

Could it possibly be a shell? The outline looks like a slipper limpet. It also looks like it is still pretty small which would explain the translucency of the shell.

doesn’t seem like it, it doesn’t really love around and it’s completely on the rock. also the dots are different depths within it rather than the surface. i’ve seen limpets this small and they didn’t look like this

honestly hard to tell, it’s so small. i don’t think it’s moving at all. looks the same underwater, like it doesn’t grow or open or anything like an anemone or coral would. it honestly looks like an egg sac to me lol. i wanted to add this rock to the display today, but want to make sure this isn’t some undesirable pest. you think i should scrape it off, or leave it alone?

If it’s like the critter in the link below, I’d personally leave it and see what it does - it’s most likely harmless, and almost certainly not an egg sac.

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
