Emergency. WAV powerheads stopped.

I found the bad powerhead. That makes 6 failed WAVs, 1 failed EB832, and a Trident that I can't get to work. All in the last 28 months.

And here I thought the Apex was supposed to bring peace of mind.

I agree with your logic, but, it happened when a single pump was disconnected. That didn't make a lot of sense to me, almost felt like a short somewhere.
Apex uses a CAN transceiver on the inside piped into a regular serial modbus implementation for aquabus. Every connected module is fighting to get their comm packets through to the head unit. A faulty unit jams the entire comm for everyone but in his case the EB832 was lucky enough to still maintain the communication. Then he pulled one pump, just not the faulty one. Remaining devices on CAN started renegotiating again while still being jammed by the faulty pump, and this time EB832 was not so lucky and lost communication as well.
On top of all of this, the Apex's modbus implementation is not very stable. This glitch required the head unit reboot to get it back to normal.
