Before I do a Freshwater dip to possibly stress him further, do you guys think these are Flukes or just regular stress spots.

Today’s the first day since I got him that he hasn’t been hiding in a pipe, which makes me think stress.

Pretty familiar with ich, Velvet, and Brook, pretty those are ruled out as it doesn’t look like those.

I am guessing stress. Give it a day or so and maybe even do a freshwater dip to confirm.

FW dip to confirm. Looks like skin flukes to me.

Do the spots seem to move around?

That looks like flukes or ich. Angel stress spots on large angels are more blotchy —- often the stress spots were originally ich or flukes or an insertion point for some sort of parasite.

Many actual angel stress spots are from gill damage from parasites and are the result of poor gill performance.

What makes me think Flukes is he had waaay worse stress splotches over the last few days, he seems comfortable now and is swimming around. Wouldn’t the stress marks be gone?

He’s also in the process of changing which I’m not sure is a factor or not?

Looking at it again, the spots seem too pinpointed to be stress. Have to agree it may be flukes. I'd dip him. At least that would eliminate one theory. Any spots on the fins?

Nothing on his fins

Nothing came off during the 5min FW dip. Guess it was just stress marks? Could it also be color transition?

Yes & yes. Juvenile Emperors will often look splotchy as they begin to transition into adulthood.
