Encrusting corals and clams

What happens when an encrusting coral reaches a clam? I have a few clams on the way. Do I have to worry about cyphastrea or montipora encrusting onto a clam and killing it?

Maybe? But if it were my tank, I'd either move the clam, or trim the other corals to prevent the possibility.
