While its still cycling I would take the opportunity to make a skimmer box with a baffle so you have consistent water level.
You may have to just let it overflow till it breaks in.

giving you a update. its still not broke in. still overflowing no matter how i set the waterflow in the skimmer.

Im a happy camper today. Got home today and my skimmer is finally broke in. Now I just gotta get it set to skim. Any info on making a skimmer box?
