Two days ago I started the cycle with Turbostart and some Dr Tim’s Ammonia. Only two days later I’m starting to see some diatoms already appearing on the top of the rocks. Really happy to see it moving along!

So it’s been 3 days since I turned the tank on and added the fishless cycling necessities. Ammonia readings are looking good while Nitrate seems to be spiking.

There’s no way my cycle could be going this quickly... could it?

Be aware that any Nitrite level can cause a high, false Nitrate reading. I would not be concerned about Nitrate until your Nitrite is clear.

Tomorrow marks 1 week since starting the cycle. Yesterday the ammonia read at 0 ppm. To test that the biological filtration was ready I added another dose of Dr. Tim’s Ammonia that would have brought the reading to 2.0 ppm. Just testing the water again after about 20 hours and it appears that the ammonia is already back down to 0.5ppm however nitrates are still though the roof.

I am considering ordering a cleanup crew from Reef Cleaners this week to get them in there and working.
