Has anyone run a reef in a shallow cube like the UNS 60CS?

I’ve been looking at tanks around 24 x 24 x 12 inches, especially the UNS 60CS, or similar shallow dimensions under 50 gallons because I really like the shallow lagoon footprint. But I’m surprised by how few long-term reef build threads I can find for this tank and similar ones.

For anyone who has run one, I’d love to hear how it went over the long term, and whether it was worth it or ended up being too difficult to keep.

Thanks!

I'm going to be doing a mangrove lagoon with the UNS R80CS. I've had a shallow lagoon in the past, and moved to taller system to grow Acros. In my opinion, it was no more difficult that a standard height aquarium. It really depends on what you are looking to do.

Does that mean 12" deep? Smaller rectangle tanks are 12" deep, my 5, 10, and 15 gallon tanks are 12" deep, and I keep a 2" sandbed so it really means 10" deep. As mentioned above I find it no harder or easier than a taller tank.

I have Innovative Marine 10 gallon cubes that are 12" tall, and I have the IM 25 gallon Lagoon that's about 24"x20"x12", and I love the dimensions of that lagoon tank 🙂
