I have heard a lot about how Zoe's and gsp's are "fast growing " but what does that mean?

I think it depends on the specific Zoa. I had one type that at its fastest was getting a few new polyps each week. I had mind-blowing palys and other palys that probably doubled in size/ number each month (they were my fastest).

I think what I have seen written is true - it’s better to have a small colony of zoas together to get them to settle in and grow quickly rather than to start with only one or a few polyps.

I think this is highly dependent on the tank stability as well.

Some Zoas don't care, but many do. GSP doesn't care as much.

But I've seen zoas propagate in my tank within two weeks. GSP grows 5% a month? Other peoples tanks GSP grows like a weed... What it really is is hard to get rid of if you want it gone.

I’ve also had a number of zoas that didn’t do very well at all in my tanks and others that went through phases of doing well at different times.
