Feeding live to fang tooth eels

Do you feed live to your fang tooth eels why or why not?

I'm planning a eel only tank, suggestions for inhabitants welcomed. For sure wanting to do a white eye.

My answer to your first question is *necessarily no*

As long as an eel is eating properly and eating a wide range of foods, it's not needed to feed live, though, there is a certain species of eel which I believe needs live food as a part of their diet as a natural stimulant and that eel is the rhinomuraena (ribbon eels) though many do still feed eels live as a way to bring them out of their hunger strikes or just for entertainment purposes.

I am not really a fan of the idea of feeding live primarily because of:
1 costs
2 invitation of parasites
3 most of the live fish available nowadays are especially a no good for eels (the most common I've seen is gold fish) highly low in healthy fats and extremely high in thiaminase (an enzyme which breaks down thiamine, leading to the deficiency of vitamin B1)


The white eyed is less aggressive compared to other eels and can be housed successfully with many eels of its size (i do not recommend species which grow twice the size)

Thanks for the response. I'm leaning towards a tank with just one eel. Maybe I'll get a tang for algae cleanup.
