This build became necessary once we decided to purchase a bigger house. The current tank is a standard 75g with a lot of modifications to allow it to be a reef tank. The rocks are stacked and the layout is very dense - moving the tank and inhabitants would be a nightmare while moving the rest of the house. In the meantime, we are modernizing the floors, which is exceptionally difficult with a tank in the way.

In the end, the solution was to purchase a different tank and adopt a negative space aquascape with islands and sections which could be moved easily. The corals could all be fragged and the fish/invertebrates could be moved, too.

The Fiji Cube 81 looked like the best option for us and saved a foot of horizontal space. The new design without the additional cabinetry for the sump (and most of the additional equipment) saved roughly five feet for a total reduction of six feet of length. The larger stand cabinet space allowed for all of the equipment to be located under the tank, albeit cramped.

This set up allowed me to finally create and update a true build for a fresh tank. Previously, the old tank was set up many years before I joined R2R, so I never got the chance. A build thread isn't necessary, but I am happy to have the opportunity to document the process.

I'll start with the equipment list (below) and add pictures as I can - I actually took them this time!

Excited to see photos! I’ve never heard of this brand. How does the build quality compare to red sea?

I think it's great. Fiji Cube drop-shipped the tank and it got here way ahead of schedule (too early... while the tank was in the crate, it became a charcuterie board for Christmas). Build is strong, price is very reasonable, and the customer service was wonderful and attentive.

Lighting -

  • Six (6) Reefi Uno units

I have mounted the lights with the Reefi arms on their website. I purchased longer extruded aluminum from Amazon to evenly distribute the light around the tank (three arms, two lights on each arm).

Using the Dana Riddle's break down if the lights, I created a simplistic layout for the best spread.

Red = hottest
Yellow = medium
Blue = very little
Black = mounting arm

I moved the lights until there was no blue and the spread was maximized (see screenshot).

Thank you, thank you. I'm starting a new 200g and am planning out the rocks. AF intrigued me, so I'm looking there first. Thank you for the feedback!
