Good read, Looks like LA seems to be the best way to acquire one of these beasties?

what's the price range on it? very nice looking coral!

@Tahoe61
I have some SPS in the DT, will the mucus from the yellow Fiji leather be ok, I have carbon in the sump most of the time.

As leathers become larger, they can have a inhibiting effect on not only sps, but lps too. I could never put an open brain anywhere near my large nepthea leather.

I've been looking for a Sarcophyton Elegans for a while, LA finally appeared to have them.. Ordered one and now I'm thinking it's a different coral.. Picture is terrible but as you can see the polys extension long. Color is very tan. I was suspicious from beginning, It's been with me for 2 months and fully recovered from transport.

Anyone know where to get a good yellow fiji/Tonga leather (Sarcophyton elegans) these days? Liveaquaria never seems to have them.

Yes they are harder to frag, and listed as moderately difficult by most. I have never had one lose coloration and I have had 5 over the years. Those are my images.

Thank you so much. :)

Thanks. :D:D

Did yours maintain the coloration? Mine always have.

I have fragged off a slice of the cap and it worked but I think I got lucky. Splitting from the cap or steam has been the most common means of reproduction for me.

You can see in this image from 1997, I have both a frag and the large colony splitting as well.

It is a Gorgonian. Unfortunately in 1998 most hobbyist, myself included did know that non photosynthetic Gorgonian/Sea Fans need frequent feeding of suspended particulate matter in the water column to meet their nutritional needs. Target feedings were insufficient.

No bother, I was thinking I'd never seen it before! That's a pity. I've just set up a new tank for a few months, and thought I'd be able to have sps on a shelf piece of rock near the top of my tank. Unfortunately, I believe my copperband may be eating my sps, so I am thinking of putting some nice softies on top of it (e.g., the yellow Fiji leather)

I know this is an older thread.
What lights are you running for the Fiji to keep its color? I know heavy blues will brown them out.

It was a AI Hydra 64 on a 45 gallon JBJ. I tend towards less blue.

I didn't like the fixture at all. Disco ball effect, and a lot of shading.

This was 11 yrs ago. Thank God LED lighting got better since then.
