Filter or light

Hey I want to upgrade my filter and light . Both are perfectly fine for what I have and technically don’t need an upgrade but why not, I can make my system better.

Would you upgrade light first or filtration?

I have a HOB filter and wanted a canister

I have a regular reef light and wanted something way stronger lol

I have two baby clowns in a 40 gal breeder and one toadstool . And a baby bubble tip nem

Not really enough information to answer this question. What are your tank inhabitants? What are your current water parameters? What size tank do you have? And what are the specific filters/lights that you are currently using?

IMO a hob is better than a canister.. If you would get a protein skimmer to work along with your hob, that is an upgrade.

For light suggestions, we would need your tank specs lol? gallons and measurements

50 watts and the new is 140

oh, 50 watts is too small for your tank IMO, 140 is perfect, especially at that price. I've never used smatfarm before, but I've seen good reviews on this site from other users. Good luck

Sounds good to me new light it is ! I’ll eventually get a cannister mainly because it’s quiet

If you don’t have a problem with either buy a fish or coral instead :)

1) problem with a filter means N/P is rising month after month . If it is stable in a reasonable range then leave the filter alone

2) problem with light means the corals are not doing well, undesirable shadows or looks crappy in/on the tank .
