So I finally got around setting up my DOS for auto water changes!! I am so excited and it was unbelievably easy. I just had to get around to it which took longer than I would like to admit. Anyhow, I am loving the convenience and ease and kicking myself for not getting to it sooner. I have a 55g mixed reef display with a ~20g sump. Actual water volume is ~60g in the whole system. I setup the DOS to do a daily 1g water change. Do you think that is sufficient or should I do more? I figured in the month that accumulates to 30g or 50%. What do you guys think? And for those of you that do AWC’s, how often do you get into your tank and do a deep cleaning and siphoning of that crud?

just see how your tank reacts first. then up it if necessary.

I change 3.5 gallons a day on my 225. Awc are probably one of the best things I have done for the tank. For the sand I just take a turkey baster and stir the sand bed up a couple times a week.

How long ago did you set yours up with AWC? Did you notice benefits of it within your tank in comparison to your prior water change regimen?

It's been set up for a couple months. The tank is a lot more stable now. I'm using a salt mix with higher alkalinity so I was able to lower my 2 part dosing from 100ml to 80ml. Growth and color seems to be a little better but the biggest plus is no more lugging around brute trash cans to do water changes.
