Finally trying torches

I've always wanted a torch but never went for it until now. Finally settled on and ordered a blue tipped neon torch. Any bits of advice or anything while I wait on shipping? I have had success growing out other kinds of euphylia so I figured nows the time to light the torch

One of my favorite corals! You’ll want moderate light and moderate random flow., slightly more flow than your hammers and frogspawn. They really aren’t any more difficult than your other euphyllia. Good luck and O-H!

Have a 150g fallow tank I’m running with corals I will eventually move to my 300g system. One of the torches was on. A plastic in sand stand, but the tank has no stand. It fell over thanks to the turbo snails. After falling over the darn thing managed to swing one of its tentacles over to the hammer. Almost wrecked one of its heads! And this is a decent sized hammer! Yes they are aggressive! Only nems can be called worse! Haha.

ouch… i had a torch get knocked down onto my tck insane plate. It killed the plate, luckily i was able to frag a small chunk of it and it recovered but the torch killed 90 percent of the insane plate

I’m gonna assume an I-O goes after that or I’m misunderstanding something lol. Totally agree, torches can handle more flow than you think. Look at the tentacles if their fatter than a little less flow, thinner and wispier then they can handle a good amount. I would recommend keep them away from other corals other than other torches and keep tentacles in open water

Thanks good to know, My tank has alot of flow (some may say too much but everything else loves it so hopefully torches will too) The tank the torch is going in is a 40b an has a flow rate of about 1800gph while the lights are on and about 500gph through the night.

Yea they definitely aren't a cuddly type lol

Check the torch for euphyllia eating flatworms and their eggs around the base. If you introduce them to your tank they are a pain to remove and they will spread to the other euphyllia in your tank.

Yes, I inspected it then did a dip in coral rx and then one in seachem reef dip and then I scrubbed the base and plug for eggs

Good luck, they are probably my favorite coral, I just can't see to get most of them to NOT get bjd at some point :( ... It is very frustrating

I’m in this same camp. No idea why but at some point they take this turn. Last one I had was 2 years, split into 5 heads during that time and suddenly one day it was no more. I love the way they look but haven’t had best luck.
