Finger Leather question new to corals

The leather has developed the waxy coating that it must shed/slough off before it will re-open, the shiny appearance is the coating. This coating prevents the accumulation of detritus and algae by occasionally sloughing off. Give the coral some decent flow and it will open given some time once that waxy coating comes off.
