I got a fire shrimp maybe a week ago, it molted after a day and has since been sitting behind one of the return jets and never leaving that corner from what i can see.

im not sure how long it takes to harden back up after a molt but im not sure if its even eating or not being in the corner all the time

Is this normal behavior?

From my experience no, My fire shrimp is active and he takes an hour to shed and he goes straight back out to eat he's a great shrimp. Your shrimp is probably ill but don't give up. Try to feed it scallops or shrimp any type of meaty food he will either one: Run in fear (good) two: Eat it (also good) three: It was dead this whole time (I AM SO SORRY) So try to do that

Post molt is up to three days. Fire and cleaner shrimp are vulnerable after a molt and know when its safe to move along. the main issue may be that the Blood Red Fire Shrimp is most active at night and prefers a habitat aquascaped with caves and overhangs where the lighting is not too intense during the daytime.

A few things you may want to look at to assure they are Not factors are:
Hiding places
-Water movement
-any occupants who may pose threat
-High nitrate (< .4)
-High or low salinity (1.025)
-Low calcium needed for shell (440)

I agree with vetteguy53081, Fire and Cleaner shrimp will hide for a couple days after a molt to avoid getting picked off by a predator. After they molt their exoskeletons are still softer and harden a little while after the molt. What other fish do you have in the tank and what does your aquascape look like?

its basically one rock mountain with a lot of arches and empty space underneath.

A royal gramma has taken a big hole in the cave as his home, and I have a pair of clowns who claimed an area in the back of the tank. I added him at night so I wasnt really able to see if they were aggressive or not initially towards the shrimp

I guess my fire shrimp is just like immortal. The first day he jerked up molted and well every time he sheds it's finished in 4 hours. It could be that well, you may have a more timid one and that's alright. I recommend after a while maybe when he likes the tank more the next time you do tank maintenance stick your arm in (ew I know) and see if the shrimp will hop on. I built a bond with my shrimp this way and he gets excited every time he sees me.

An update for everyone, feeding time today the shrimp just came alive and ran around for pellets! Ventured out of its corner all over the overflow and onto a monti.

seems like it was just getting used to the tank for a while
