First coral, looking for advice

Hello everyone, I just got my first coral which is GSP. It came on a weird piece, and I was wondering if I can maybe get it off there and attach it to a plug I have safely? Also does he look alive,,, not sure what to look for

GSP is pretty easy to care for. Just some decent flow and moderate light. It will encrust that piece and spread like a weed. Best to keep it separate from your rock structure so it doesn’t take over.

It can absolutely encrust the whole piece. When GSP gets going it will encrust whatever its on, whats next to it, the sand, the back wall, the cat..... and keep going....

It looks like it's okay so far, might take a little while to open up in your aquarium. The purple tissue looks like it's fine.

Easiest way imho to attach it to a plug would be to cut away as much of the rock that it's attached to as possible with bone nippers or something of the sort and glue what little is left to a plug. That being said, plugs are ugly and I'd personally use a piece of rubble to glue it to then place that rubble where you want it. You could also peel the gsp off of the piece of rock and rubber band it to whatever you want to attach it to until it secures itself.

fwiw it looks like there's an aiptasia on the backside of that piece it came on.

yeah i noticed that too but its like a purple color. do you think its aptasia? i couldnt take a good picture it looks different in person, kinda looks like a feather duster. do you think it can wait until tomorrow? i don't have anything aptasia related or any coral dips. the fish store had some aptasia but only on seperate tanks without corals

Looks less aptasia ish in the closer video. Hard to tell what it is for sure. It should be fine until tomorrow either way.

Your GSP will encrust that entire piece of rock. It is easy to care for and will grow like a weed with minimal effort. I had GSP that was doing somewhat well on my urchin at one point (never encrusted).

Don’t worry about fragging it,it’s like weeds will grow anywhere and everywhere

I couldn’t get the video to play but it doesn’t look like aptaisia to me. Looks like a feather duster. Common in live rock. Their filter feeders. I like them in my tank.

That’s good most people I know haven’t had that luck and Evan had to break tanks down to get rid of it

tysm. may I ask how this light program/cycle looks if you know? i've been told to keep pink/white low since it causes algae and doesnt grow corals. also it's doing way better it opened up like 10 minutes after I turned on my lights

They are not light demanding, low par is fine. Happy that they opened!
