Hey everyone.

Have a few questions for you.
I'm QT my new Red Head Solon Wrasse in a 29 long. I started with seeded sponges(4 weeks) and a small piece of live rock from my sump(2 years), and a bottle of Dr Tim's one and only. I'm still getting a very slight ammonia reading, even after (2) 5 gallon water changes. Anything I can do to help with this?

Next question once my ammonia settles and I'm sure my nitrifying bacteria is stable I'm going to proceed with Prazi. I was planning on dosing just one 1 teaspoon to make sure I don't over dose it as I have read that wrasses are not fond of prazi. Thoughts?

Finally I will treat cupramine for 14 days (is that long enough? I keep getting different opinions). I want to bring it up slowly for 4-5 days to .5. So what would be a good dosage per dose to bring it up at a safe rate?

Thanks for the input! Here is my setup…. I have increased the water level a little since this pic, but am using the filter splashing to add enough surface agitation for oxygen exchange.

Hi there! I looks like your ammonia badge is reading safe from the picture. Just keep up with the water changes. You can check your ammonia badge by taking it out and placing it in clean water for a while. Then check the badge and see what color it reads.

Now, I've dosed prazi with so many different fish at this point, that I'm confident you can just dose it according to the directions and be safe with your solon wrasse. You dont want to OVER dose it, so follow the directions exactly. Make sure to do two doses 5-7 days apart with a water change in between them.

With the copper.... You'll want to keep the fish at .5 for 30 days straight. If it drops below that, even for a day, then you start the clock over again. I would also remove the live rock (even though it's a small piece) before adding the copper. It can absorb and release copper at random times making it difficult to keep the levels where you want them consistently.

Yeah the badge has pockets of the greenish grey in it and confirmed with Red Sea and API that it has a .25 or less ammonia reading..

Thanks for the rest of the information! want to make sure I go slow and not screw anything up.

Were any meds in the water when you tested for ammonia? These will often cause a false positive.

No medications in the tank yet. Dr Tim's states you might see a slight ammonia reading for a few days and then drop quickly. I add my wrasse on Saturday so maybe that is it. Just don't want to risk any damage to him. It never gets over .25 and is really just a slight reading.
