Hey All,

I'm starting my first saltwater reef tank with a 75gal tank and 20gal sump. Planning on beginner corals and fish.

Here are the fish I plan on getting (Plus a clean up crew):

SpeciesQTY
Ocellaris Clown Fish2
Kole Tang1
Coral Beauty1
Bi-Color Blenny1
Green Banded Goby1
Butterfly Fish1
Azure Demoiselle1
My Tank8

I have a couple questions.

1. I was planning on introducing the clowns first and the tang last but I'm not sure what order to introduce the rest of the fish. Any recommendations?
2. What's everyone think of the stocking level? I'd like to add more to my list if y'all think I can have a higher stocking level.
3. When should I introduce a clean up crew? Obviously, there needs to be algae for them to eat, I want to make sure there's enough food for them.

Thank you! Any advice is helpful!

  4. butterfly
  5. clowns
  6. coral beauty
  7. tang

The CB may nip at corals.

If you’re talking about a copper band, that is both a challenging fish as well as grow a bit large for 70g with tang. Hates boisterous fish.

I might exclude the copper band, replace with Y Tang, keep the Kole and CB.

Clowns first.
All else next except CB.
Then CB only.
Then both tangs at once.

Is there a good butterfly fish that is reef safe and not too difficult to care for?

Could I do a yellow tang and kole tang instead of the butterfly fish? Or will they be too aggressive toward eachother?

If i swap the copper band for a yellow tang will it have aggression issues in a 75 gallon with the kole tang? Ideally, I wanted both a yellow and kole tang originally but was worries they might be aggressive toward each other

each fish is different. you may have two perfectly peaceful fish, or one more aggressive than the other.

definitely prepare ahead of time and get an acclimation box or two (unless the one you get has dividers) so you can monitor for aggression. or the old mirror trick could help.

I did put them both in a 65g without issue.
To me, both are not very aggressive for tangs, no way to guarantee success for any pairing.

Both are 5 years old now and where moved to a 180g with the addition of a 6” blue tang and 7” Sailfin.
